A video posted on social media over the weekend shows the stealth fighter that crashed on a US Navy aircraft carrier last month and bursting into flames as it strikes the flight deck of the massive warship.
F-35 aircraft:
The F-35C, the newest fighter in the Navy fleet, is seen on a video and monitor from inside the USS Carl Vinson which was the operations in the South China Sea when the accident occurred on January-24.
The footage shows two angles of the incident from the separate cameras. And both show jet was approaching the aircraft carrier. In one close-up shot, the plane hits the deck, bursts into flames then spin in front of the camera full frame. The 2nd angle captures the fiery wreck as it careens with the deck then slides off into the water.
As the 100 million dollars fighter makes its approach to the vessel, and crew can be heard yelling “Wave off, wave off,” that term is used for a plane to abort a landing attempt, and accelerate fly around to try again. But the warning to the pilot comes late to avoid the crash.
“That’s, scary,” said Mr. Peter Layton, a former Royal Australian Air Force officer and now at the Griffith Asia Institute.
Layton noted that the F-35 jet seemed to have control problems when it approached the carrier.
Aircraft Control:
“The aircraft is coming down to words the flaps and are working overtime and backward and forwards. It looks like the pilot has lost its control and is suffering oscillations.”
He said that the crash suggested to him the jet wasn’t using an automatic landing system. Digital controls help to the limits number of times and the pilot must make corrections to get the plane safely on the deck.
“It is a Masterpiece and software that links up to the flight controls is amazing (the flaps) and the throttles and also gives the pilot some display so that the pilot can monitor their system and fine tweak,” Layton said. “This is a new system that has come out with the F-35 program.”
The deployment on Vinson was the first operational one for the F-35C, which only entered services in 2019. The US Ai-Force version of the stealth fighter, F-35A, and the Marine Corps version, the F-35B, was put into service earlier.
The US Navy confirmed the authenticity of the video to CNN. But it hasn’t yet released the cause of the crash.
The F-35C contains the Navy’s most advanced technology. And the Analysts said Washington wants to keep it out of Beijing’s hands.
However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: that it was aware of a US-Navy stealth fighter and had crashed in the South China Sea. But had no interest in their plane.
“We advise (the US) to contribute more to the regional peace and the stability, rather than flexing force at every turn in.
Though the Navy has not revealed where in the South China Sea the crash occurred. Beijing claims almost all of them (1.3 million square miles) (3.3 million square kilometers) waterway. And has bolstered its claims by building up and militarizing reefs and islands there.
